Bio:
Loretta was born on the island of Cres in Croatia. She has lived in Canada for over 40 years. She is Canadian at heart but her Croatian heritage is intertwined in her being. Loretta is inquisitive and curious by nature and loves to learn and do new things. She has a BA in Psychology, a MBA and a Diploma in Photography. Other than doing some free-lance photography in the mid-80s, she has focused her time on her career and artistic pursuits were put on hold for many years. As of 2000, she has slowly been re-kindling her artistic side by studying with various teachers in Ottawa, Haliburton and the Toronto area and producing works in different mediums and styles. Her work is characterized by bold color and a strong sense of composition.
Artist Statement:
My style and approach are still evolving as I experiment with different techniques. I find that the journey of discovery is as fulfilling as the outcome. I am inspired by nature – the color of a gauzy sky at sunset; the patterns created by reflections on the water; the boldness of light and shadows in the forest; the majesty of mountains and the emphermal beauty of flowers. I strive to represent the essence of these things in my art using a variety of techniques and styles. My goal is to create a flutter of recognition for the viewer and have them pause to experience the moment.
