Artist's Statement
Ever since I can remember, I always loved art, the beauty of nature and the aesthetics of buildings.
My first real introduction to painting was as a schoolboy in Toronto and going on a school trip to the McMichael Gallery. I was mesmerized by the paintings and was immediately struck by their beauty but also the style of these works. I said to myself I want to do this someday.
Throughout elementary and high school I too part in some art camps and gained an interest in architecture. My summary project in my senior year was a design of a motel of which we built a scale model with working lights etc and we won an award of merit from the City of Scarborough with the model being displayed in city hall for several months.
Life brought me to University where I spent time taking some photography courses as an extra curricular endeavour and found them very fun. Capturing the colours of the season always affected me viscerally especially in autumn with vibrant warm colours being a feast for the eyes and fuel for the soul.
The working world of finance and marriages and children took most of my time for the next couple of decades where I wanted to do more in art but, just did not ultimately have the time, to pursue it.
In my last few years of work I had the opportunity to start to spend some more time in the art space and since retiring last year I am now able to now spend much more time at this lifelong endeavour.
Having had the opportunity to paint with Gordon Harrison, Naomi Cote and David Hearn, undertake some great on line coursework with Tim Packer, along with my admiration for the Group of Seven, have really shaped both my style and what I love to paint. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them.
